Peter Morgan’s revealing and witty new play The Audience is coming to the IFI in association with Dublin Theatre Festival on 13thJune at 18.45. This critically-acclaimed production sees Helen Mirren returning to the role of Queen Elizabeth II after her Oscar-winning turn in Stephen Frears’ 2006 film The Queen.

Focusing on the long-standing private weekly meeting between British Monarch and Prime Minister, The Audience recreates encounters with each of the 12 Prime Ministers that have served during the Queen’s 60 year reign. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said. Not even to their spouses. The Audience breaks this contract of silence – and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and the Queen.

From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister has used these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional – sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive. Politicians come and go through the revolving door of electoral politics, while she remains constant, waiting to welcome her next Prime Minister.

Tickets, costing €15, are available now from the IFI Box Office on 01 679 3477 or online at ww.ifi.ie. Tickets must be collected by 6.45pm with the performance starting strictly at 7pm.
