Electus Options North American Format Rights

for beActive’s Multi-platform Hit

beActive today confirms that multimedia studio Electus has acquired the North American format rights to beActive’s new multi-platform property BEAT GIRL which includes a web series, a book, a movie and a television series. Deal comes as beActive celebrates its 10th year in business.

Created by Emmy-nominated writer-producer Nuno Bernardo and originally produced in the U.K. in 2012, BEAT GIRL is a coming of age story of a young girl as she is torn between her late mother’s dreams of her securing a place in the prestigious Julliard Performing Arts School in New York and becoming a world class pianist in the pulsating world of Electronic Dance Music (EDM). The original television series and the film rights are being sold internationally by Content Media.  A music album and a smart phone game based on the series are due out in the Spring of 2013 to complement the multi-platform experience.

beActive’s Triona Campbell said “We are delighted to sign a format option agreement with Electus on reversioning this project for the U.S. market. The feedback online from the BEAT GIRL fan based communities has been huge and this is rapidly becoming a break out success story from what started as a in-house project to justify our obsession with electronic dance music and explore the counter culture world around it.  We really couldn’t ask for a better team than Electus in terms of translating this initial success into a unique series for U.S. audiences and bringing the BEAT GIRL world to the next level. The timing is also great in that we are announcing this on the same day as we are celebrating out 10th year of working in the Transmedia space

Electus’ Vice President of on International Media and Formats Eli Shibley said “We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with beActive on BEAT GIRL in the U.S.  Their multi-platform approach to storytelling is perfectly suited for a series set in constantly evolving world of electronic music and we are confident that the universally relatable themes of this series will resonate with U.S. networks, as it has with networks and consumers around the world.”

This sale is the second U.S. format sale from beActive who previously successfully sold the format rights for multi-platform series SOFIA’S DIARY to Sony Pictures and Television in Los Angeles, with the teen series having since been reversioned in over ten territories (including China and the U.K.) and sold internationally.
