Author and Film Ireland contributor Wayne Byrne sat down with his friend and filmmaker David McGiffert for a deep dive into the life of a Hollywood Assistant Director.

McGiffert was the 1st AD on many major studio films across four decades, including the Back to the Future trilogy, Batman Returns, Rain Man, Witness, Tootsie, An Officer and a Gentleman, The Fisher King, King Kong, The Firm, Vanilla Sky, Absence of Malice, and many more.

Byrne and McGiffert take us behind the scenes in this entertaining conversation where they discuss what it was like working on major Hollywood studio productions with the likes of Sydney Pollack, Tim Burton, Peter Fonda, Alan Rudolph, Cameron Crowe, Robert Zemeckis, and other notable filmmakers. McGiffert also exclusively reveals details of his recently-authored film memoir, The Best Seat in the House
