The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland (SDGI) in association with the Irish Film Institute (IFI) will present an exclusive family screening of a special episode of the TV animation series The Octonauts on October 9th at 15:10 in the IFI.

The screening of Octonauts and the Great Penguin Race will be followed by a conversation with Oscar-nominated director and Brown Bag Films Co-founder Darragh O’Connell. The conversation will be moderated by fellow SDGI member Damian Farrell.

The Octonauts follows an underwater team of eight adventurers who live in an undersea base, the Octopod, from where they go on undersea adventures with the help of a fleet of aquatic vehicles.

In Octonauts and the Great Penguin Race, Peso is going home to Antarctica to watch an annual penguin triathalon, the Iron Clam Competition, but learns to his dismay that his little brother Pinto has entered him in it!

The audience is encouraged to bring their children along to the screening as the post screening discussion will focus on giving the little ones a glimpse into the animation process.

Birch Hamilton, SDGI’s Executive Director says: ‘This is our first family event and we wish to inspire both children and grown-ups with this fantastic piece of animation. We hope this event will encourage children to love the art of film from a very early age.’

The Octonauts Family Screening takes place on 9th October at 15:10 in the Irish Film Institute, Eustace Street, Dublin 2. This event is free but ticketed. Please contact IFI Box Office on 01 679 3477 to book.
