JDIFF 2013: Danny DeVito to take part in exclusive on-stage Q&A at the Jameson Cult Film Club screening of LA ConfidentiaL

As part of the 11th Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, Hollywood star Danny DeVito will attend and take part in an exclusive onstage Q&A at the Jameson Cult Film Club screening of his movie, LA Confidential on Thursday 21st February.

Speaking about the screening, Festival Director Gráinne Humphreys said “It is a great honour to welcome Danny DeVito to the festival, I really admire him as a director and producer and he really makes me laugh.  This is a man who, with Jersey Films, produced Pulp Fiction and most of the classic American films of the 80’s and 90’s. The fact that he could have that effect on modern cinema, and at the same time give performances as subtle as he was in LA Confidential or as completely over the top as he was in Romancing the Stone is quite spectacular. It’s impossible to think about Danny DeVito without smiling, and if that is the gift the festival gives to Dublin audiences, I will be very happy.”

Following on from last year’s successful Jameson Cult Film Club screenings of Silence of the Lambs, JAWS, Blues Brothers and Reservoir Dogs, Jameson are kicking off the 2013 series with the neo-noir film, LA Confidential. This very special screening promises to transport the audience right back to glamorous Los Angeles in 1953 with its compelling mix of LA history, police corruption and celebrity scandals. Themed special effects and live theatre timed perfectly with the onscreen action will create an electric atmosphere in the venue. Jameson Cult Film Club – ‘Jaws’

The Jameson Cult Film Club returned to Dublin on Tuesday with an interactive screening of the shark thriller, Jaws (1977) on Amity Island aka The Tivoli Theatre. Continuing on from this year’s other successful screenings of cult classics Reservoir Dogs, Snatch, Blues Brothers and Silence of the Lambs, the Jameson Cult Film Club was challenged with transporting the audience right into the ‘jaws’ of this killing machine for another unforgettable viewing experience and ticket holders were not left disappointed.

The venue was completely transformed to replicate Amity Island and on approach, guests were herded to dry land under the watchful eye of the lifeguard on duty.  Purposeful actors played out the parts of Roy Scheider’s Chief Brody, Robert Shaw’s Captain Quint and Richard Dreyfuss’ know-it-all oceanographer Hooper in key scenes while fishermen trawled the jetty after there was talk of an ominous shark fin seen gliding through the murky waters.

Fancy a swim?

Beachgoers also got the chance to hang out with Quint at the bar as he told grandiose tales of the sea and led everyone in a round of “Show Me the Way to Go Home”, whilst in the next room a council meeting took place to decide if the beach should remain open – luckily for Jameson Cult Film Club fans, they decided it should!

Live theatre and special effects timed perfectly with on-screen action helped to create an electric atmosphere throughout the screening, including a brilliant pyrotechnic display in the final scene where the whole audience got sprayed with water as Brody shot the exploding air tank in the shark’s mouth.

As well as treating Dublin movie buffs to an amazing theatrical event, Jameson screened this iconic shark thriller in all its glory from the digitally re-mastered and fully restored Blu-ray, enabling the Jameson Cult Film Club audience to experience the film on the big screen in a quality never seen before. Guests also enjoyed refreshing Jameson, Ginger and Lime long drinks and chowed down on chunky fish and chips.

Enjoying the Jameson Cult Film Club Experience were rugby players Devin Toner, Tom Denton, Leo Auva’a and Tom Sexton, along with actor David Coffey, TV presenters Liam McCormack and Lottie Ryan and models Carl Shaaban, Matthew Toman and Shane Lennon.

Jameson Cult Film Club

Following on from the highly successful screenings of cult classics Reservoir Dogs, Snatch, Alien, Blues Brothers and The Usual Suspects, the Jameson Cult Film Club returned to Dublin on August 14th/15th for their biggest and most electrifying double screening to date. Dublin’s Mansion House was completely transformed into the Baltimore State Forensic Hospital for an exclusive screening of the horror thriller, The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Organisers of the Jameson Cult Film Club were once again challenged with transporting the audience straight into the menacing world of Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill and lucky ticket holders were not left disappointed!

After entering the Hospital’s Maximum Security Ward, guests were quarantined as hospital staff briefed them about the safety protocols, before following in the footsteps of Clarice Starling through a corridor of patients and finally coming face to face with Hannibal Lecter in his windowless cell. Buffalo Bill’s workshop was recreated for guests to walk around before loud crescendos of one of the film’s main scores – Bach’s ‘Goldberg Variations’ – called everyone to their seats. Live theatre and special effects timed perfectly with on-screen action helped to create an electric atmosphere throughout the screening, including the ‘Catherine Martin kidnap scene’, the night vision gun fight in Buffalo Bill’s house and fluttering moths landing in the laps of unsuspecting viewers.

Refreshingly smooth Jameson, Ginger and Lime long drinks along with ‘ buffalo bill ‘ burgers were served  while renowned DJ Aidan Kelly took to the decks after the screening.

Enjoying the Jameson Cult Film Club Experience were rugby players Devin Toner, Isaac Boss, Kevin McLaughlin, Mike Ross and Rhys Ruddock, top models Sam Homan and Carl Shaaban along with actors Fergus Kiely, Matthew Toman, Shane Lennon and entertainer Shane Gillen.
