IFTA nominee and multi award-winning writer/director Paddy Slattery is about to embark on his debut feature film. Paddy has been a prominent name in the Irish film landscape over the last number of years with a critically acclaimed writing, directorial and production repertoire of short films, including The Moment (2010)Runner (2012), Skunky Dog (2014) and Today (2015).

Titled The Broken Law of Attraction, this indie crime/drama will be produced by Edwina Forkin and Deirdre McNally for Zanzibar Films. Slatterys’s debut feature is a multi-layered story featuring rising star Tristan Heanue (In View, Cardboard Gangsters) in the lead role as Dave Connolly, who reluctantly follows in his late Father’s footsteps by becoming a trusted member of the Garda Síochána. His loyalty to the law is soon put to the test when his ex-convict brother Joe comes back into his life in desperate need of his help. Against his better judgement, Dave decides to help him but after an unexpected twist of fate, his loyalty to his brother is called into question as he falls in love with Amia, the victim of his brother’s previous crime.

On what audiences can expect of his debut feature, Slattery has said “This film has conflicted but realistic characters and colourful dialogue with a few confrontational situations and adult humour thrown in for good measure. I guess it’s the kind of film I hope will draw groups of friends out to the cinemas for a good evening’s entertainment. I’m not trying to re-write the rules of narrative structure or pioneer a new formula for cinema literacy with this film. That’ll be my follow up feature.”

The Broken Law of Attraction is currently moving into pre-production and shooting is expected to get underway over the coming months with an Irish cast and crew to be announced very soon. Filming will take place around various suburban Dublin locations.
