Pre-production is underway on a new short sci-fi drama to be filmed in locations around Dublin and Louth. Jar is written by Wayne Doherty and Simon Murphy of Primevil Prints, a new Dublin-based production company.
With principal photography set to begin mid-October, the story follows three young Irish children as they plan a summer of escape, adventure and discovery. The movie will feature young actors from Dance Agency Ireland: Darragh Tobin, Dylan Bennett and Emma Meyer.
Set between the nostalgic charm of childhood and the realism of a bleak suburban Dublin housing estate, the story follows the boys over the course of a summer as they attempt to escape their mundane realities and troubled home lives through comic books, monster movies and science fiction. While out fishing in a stream one day, they catch something that will change their world forever.
Directed by Wayne Doherty with Simon Murphy producing, the film is currently fundraising via a fundit campaign. Murphy has previously produced the award-winning short film The Stand Up. Crew attached thus far includes Director of Photography Kevin Minogue (Limp, Twice Shy), 1st AC Luke Daly (Jack and Ralph Plan a Murder, La Violencia), Assistant Director Vincent McEntee of Wishka Films (Endure, For Sarah, Twice Shy), Production Sound Mixer Simon Murphy of Brainwave Audio (Cardboard Gangsters, Twice Shy, Danger Overhead Powerlines), Boom Operator Andy Flaherty (What Richard Did, King of the Travellers), Art Director Damian Byrne of Oracle Pictures (Penny Dreadful, Ripper Street, Love/Hate), Costume Designer Kika Chix (Monged). It will also feature an original score by the Brazilian music company Modular Safari.
