Barty Carty actor Tim Casey picked up the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the recent Watergate Film Festival, Kent. This is the film’s second award, after winning The Directors’ Choice award at Film Devour 15 in January in Belfast. The film has been enjoying a festival run and will next be seen at The Thurrock International Film Festival, where it will compete in the International Short Film category.

Directed by John McGovern, Barty Carty tells the story of a school principal whose passion for chess is out of proportion with social norms. As he conducts trials for the school chess team, he regales the history of St. Bridget’s Chess Team, and of their prodigy, Davey McGuinness.
