Behind The Scenes in partnership with Limerick City of Culture have announced their production of a trilogy of short films as part of a training programme for local filmmakers.
The idea is the brainchild of Film Limerick Project Manager, Ronan Cassidy who has secured the support and involvement of prominent personalities in the Irish Film Industry. Acclaimed film maker Gerry Stembridge, who hails from Limerick, has been working as writing and directing mentor. The films will be shot by cinematographer Patrick Jordan (Pentecost, Volkswagon Joe) and composer Patrick Cassidy (Calvary, Hannibal) will supervise the music composition.
Announcing the casting call this week, Stembridge, who has been working on the project for several months, is looking for a range of talent, up to 20 roles in total, across a wide variety of ages. “We are looking for actors who can deliver strong performances” he said. “There will be three short films made, all to be shot in Limerick. They will be written, directed, crewed and acted by people living in or from Limerick. The story idea is really creative and interesting and will also showcase Limerick as a location.”
“This is a very exciting time to be involved in film in Limerick,” said Project Manager, Ronan Cassidy. “It is an incredibly ambitious project to be undertaken at local level. We are working on a limited budget, but I know from the enthusiasm of all involved, we are going to produce something very special. The whole idea is to have three films that can be used separately or put together, but that might appeal as a half-hour programme.”
“I would like to express my gratitude to Gerry for coming on board with this project and for the massive amount of work and time he given to us. Having such a prominent figure in Irish Film involved, has greatly increased awareness of the work we are doing. With Gerry’s mentoring the three local writers have produced exceptional scripts”
