Now in its third edition, SUBTITLE kicks off today and will screen 25 films, including a number of Irish premieres. There is a fantastic diversity of choice available with films from France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Russia and Ukraine all featuring on the programme. The opening film is the Dardenne brothers’ powerful drama Two Days, One Night starring Marion Cotillard. The closing film is the Ukrainian Cannes Grand Prix winner, The Tribe, truly one of the most original and provocative dramas ever committed to screen. They book-end a festival that also includes popular comedies, thrillers, action films and crime-dramas.
Highlights of this year’s programme include a number of Irish premieres, amongst them Norway’s Nokas, Germany’s A Coffee in Berlin (presented in co-operation with the Goethe-Insitut Irland), Finland’s Heart of a Lion, Sweden’s Stockholm Stories and Spanish comedy Three Many Weddings. Other highlights include the arresting Ukrainian drama The Tribe, Polish masterpiece Ida, Italy’s The Great Beauty and Romanian Silver-Bear-winning drama Child’s Pose.
