The John Ford Ireland Film Symposium celebrates the work and legacy of prolific Irish-American filmmaker John Ford. The Symposium allows you to immerse yourself in ‘all things Ford’ with events including;
The Opening Night Celebration of Hollywood’s Golden Year, 1939, widely considered the greatest year in cinematic history. This Opening Night will feature a tribute to this classic year before the 75th Anniversary screening of Stagecoach, starring John Wayne. John Wayne’s children, Marissa and Ethan Wayne will be special guests; The Ford Film Hub featuring key industry figures will once again explore and examine Ford’s lasting body of work which still proves a strong influence on modern-day filmmakers, with the line-up including Academy Award nominated Whit Stillman (Metropolitan) and acclaimed UK Director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Sightseers); A night-time outdoor screening of The Quiet Man in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar; Ford at War in Collins Barracks will commemorate the work of Ford during the Second World War. The event will feature a screening of Ford’s Oscar winning war documentary The Battle of Midway, lectures and discussions (featuring Ford’s grandson, Dan Ford), realistic portrayals of WWII troops on the front lines as well as informative and entertaining displays and talks on the uniforms and weapons of the time.
