‘Collider’ Nominated for Best Cross-Platform Fiction at Rockie Awards

Collider, an Irish Sci-Fi TV Series, has been nominated for best ‘Cross-Platform Fiction’ at BANFF 2014 Rockie Awards in Canada, an internationally recognized awards program celebrating TV content from more than 40 countries in 26 categories including drama, documentary, factual, kids, and animation.  Over 250 independent industry executives working in film and television selected the nominees and this is COLLIDER’s second nomination for an International TV Award after being nominated for an International EMMY last month.

Collider was shot in Dublin and features Iain Robertson (Plunkett & Macleane, The Contractor, Band of Brothers) and Lucy Cudden (Pulp, Judas Ghost, Afterlife). The TV series was directed by Jason Butler (Republic of Telly, The Rubberbandits) and is inspired by the graphic novel of the same name created by award winning and Emmy-nominated writer-producer Nuno Bernardo (Sofia’s Diary, Beat Girl, Final Punishment) and produced by Triona Campbell and John McDonnell. The TV Series is extended by a full digital Cross-Platform experience that includes a series 8* 11’ Webisodes, two mobile Apps (iOS and Android), collection of 6 comic books and a feature film that was in Irish Cinemas last January.

“Everybody at beActive is really proud of the success of the recognition that Collider is getting among our peers. The international market is responding well to our SCI-FI series and after being sold to key territories, including Japan and Scandinavia, we are now seeing the series also being recognized at the most importat events and awards cerimonies” said Triona Campbell, Collider’s producer, from Dublin. “After being nominated for an EMMY, it’s amazing that we are also conquering the competitive North-American market”.

Collider is a melting pot of classic sci-fi standards; time travel, black holes and wormholes, strangers mysteriously thrown together across time and a discredited scientist struggling to convince the world of an imminent apocalypse. It combines traditional sci-fi themes with an action packed story with elements of drama and romance. The series action takes place in 2018, the year the planet has just collapsed and the human species will be wiped out due to a succession of natural disasters and the emergence a mutant race called the Unknown. The story focuses on a young scientist Peter who sabotages CERN laboratories’ Large Hadron Collider when his credibility is wrongfully destroyed.
