Afternoon Delight, the American comedy drama which premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, is screening at Triskel Christchurch on Thursday, 10th April 2014 at 8:45pm.
The film earned director Jill Soloway the directing award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the festival. It was a well-deserved win, since Soloway masterfully balances sharp observational wit with the darker dramatic aspects of the story.
Kathryn Hahn plays Rachel, a thirty-something stay-at-home mother who has a chic modernist home, successful husband (Josh Radnor) and adorable child, but she is frustrated by this domesticity. To spice up her sex life, she visits a strip club and strikes up an unlikely friendship with McKenna (Juno Temple), a young stripper she ends up adopting as her live-in nanny. This bold move unleashes unimagined and colourful waves of change into Rachel’s life, marriage and community.
“I am honoured that the beautiful, historic Triskel Christchurch is screening Afternoon Delights”, says writer and director Jill Soloway. “It is truly a privilege to be among the distinguished and diverse artists that have shown at Triskel. I would do anything to be in Ireland while it screens but will have to make do with hearing the reports on social media”.
