Despite the popular image of sprawl and ghost estates, everyone’s quality of life depends on planning. But what should planning in modern Ireland focus on? What can planners in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland do better or what can they celebrate? That is what entrants to the Irish Planning Institute’s 2014 short film competition “Lost in Space? What is Planning all about?” are asked to explore.

Entrants are asked to create a short film, no longer than 5 minutes in duration, which shows what they think planning is all about. In addition to a prize of €400, the winning entry will be put on the IPI website, YouTube channel and will be shown at the IPI National Conference 2014 in Limerick. The competition is especially relevant as 2014 marks fifty years since the Republic’s present planning system came into force in October 1964.

The competition is open to all and the closing date is 5pm on Monday 24th March 2014. Full details, terms and conditions are available on the Irish Planning Institute website www.ipi.ie.
