Shooting has wrapped on the Babyjane Productions short film The Grand Canal. The film is currently being edited by Mark Gilleece and is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year.
The Grand Canal is a live-action short film about an old homeless man Frank, who sits beside the statue of Patrick Kavanagh on the banks of the Grand Canal and believes that he is actually talking to the poet.
Frank reveals elements of his chequered past to the statue and we soon discover that they are old acquaintances and their lives are connected by Frank’s mother. Because of this unexpected encounter perhaps Frank will have the courage to talk to his estranged family and get his life back on track?
All this thanks to a quiet man with nothing to say.
The film stars Tommy O’Neill (The General, The Boxer, Veronica Guerin) and is written and directed by Richard Keane (Bird Food, Doc McStuffins, Henry Hugglemonster) and produced by Emma Owen, Babyjane Productions (Fishbowl City, The Yank, Jack Taylor).
