Hollywood Babylon presents VHS-tival at Light House Cinema

Light House Cinema and Hollywood Babylon present VHStival, one night of total VHS worship including the Irish Premiere of Josh Johnson’s acclaimed documentary Rewind This!, the definitive documentary of how Home Video changed the way the world consumed films. The cultural and historical impact of the VHS tape was enormous. Rewind This! traces the ripples of that impact by examining the myriad aspects of art, technology, and societal perceptions that were altered by the creation of videotape.  Filmmakers, studios, archivists, rental chain operators, personal collectors and media experts all contribute to this overview of the video era that is both informative and celebratory. The film premiered to acclaim at the  2013 SXSW Film Festival and we are delighted to present the Irish Premiere at Light House Cinema.

The Rewind This! screening will be followed by a rare showing of the VHS classic melt movie Street Trash (disclaimer: may not be played on actual VHS!). When a liquor store owner finds a case of “Viper” in his cellar, he decides to sell it to the local hobos at one dollar a bottle, unaware of its true properties. The drinks causes its consumers to melt, very messily and two hobos find themselves up against the effects of the toxic brew, as well as going head to head with “Bronson” a Vietnam vet with sociopathic tendencies, and the owner of the junkyard they live in.

As always at Hollywood Babylon events, you will be treated to 30 minutes of Trailer Trash lunacy, which will celebrate the golden era of VHS. Come down early for fun in the bar and bring along your old videos for our VHS swopshop!
