Wildcard Distribution today confirmed that feature film Life’s A Breeze will have it’s World Premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh this summer and has been scheduled for an Irish cinema release on the 19th July. Irish audiences will be the first in the world to see the new film from Lance Daly, who previously directed the Irish and international hit Kisses. Life’s A Breeze showcases a host of Irish acting talent including Pat Shortt and Fionnula Flanagan, who recently starred together in The Guard. They are joined in the film by Eva Birthistle, Gerry McCann, Philip Judge, Lesley Conroy, Peter Coonan, Brian Gleeson, Paul Ronan, and a sparkling performance from newcomer Kelly Thornton. The film also features cameos from Ryan Tubridy and Joe Duffy.
A teaser poster for the film has also been released, featuring the tagline “THIS COUNTRY IS BOLLOX€D”.
Life’s A Breeze is a feel-good “recession comedy” about a family struggling to stay afloat and stay together through hard times in Ireland. Unemployed slacker Colm (Pat Shortt), his aging mother Nan (Fionnula Flanagan) and his niece Emma (Kelly Thornton) must overcome their many differences to lead their family in a race against time to find a lost fortune. Who said Life’s A Breeze?
Lance Daly’s previous film Kisses screened at numerous A-list festivals including Toronto, Telluride, and London, and was picked up for international distribution by Focus Features (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lost In Translation, The Place Beyond The Pines).
The film’s producer Macdara Kelleher commented: “We are delighted that Life’s A Breeze will be the first major release for Wildcard Distribution. Life’s A Breeze is just a really great example of Irish film at its best that can hold its own alongside other great Irish films like The Commitments, The Snapper and The Guard.”
Patrick O’Neill of Wildcard Distribution commented, “Life’s A Breeze is a fun, feel-good family comedy in the vein of Little Miss Sunshine and The Snapper, and it is going to be loved by audiences of all ages throughout Ireland, when it hits cinemas this July.”
Gar O’Brien, programmer of the Galway Film Fleadh commented, “The Galway Film Fleadh is delighted to present the world Premiere of Life’s a Breeze as part of our 25th programme. Lance Daly’s latest is that rarest of things: a feel-good comedy that actually delivers on its promise. Featuring inspired performances from Fionnula Flanagan, Pat Short, Eva Birthistle and newcomer Kelly Thornton, Life’s a Breeze proves that, though the country may be bollox’d, there’s still plenty to smile about in this life-affirming comedy.”
The film was produced by Dublin-based Fastnet Films, with the support of The Irish Film Board / Bord Scannán na hÉireann, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
