On Saturday 8th December, Film Fatale, Ireland’s most glamorous film event, will close the year in style with a screening of the world’s most beloved war-time drama, Casablanca.
This will be a night of cinema nostalgia and old–style Hollywood glamour that will transport the audience back to the 1940s wartime for a night of film, vintage fashion, music and good old-fashioned fun.
The screening of Casablanca will be followed by a 1940s wartime heroes and sweethearts dance with the forties harmony trio The Bugle Babes. Film Fatales’s resident DJs, the Andrews Sisters’ Brothers, will follow with dance floor fillers from the 20s to 60s.
The audience is invited to help set the scene by dressing up in their vintage finest, paying homage to 1940s wartime heroes and sweethearts or mirroring the stars of the film. Film Fatale will be setting the scene by creating a Moroccan bar in The Sugar Club — a perfect chill-out room where you can step away from the busy dance floor and sit back with your 1940s bespoke cocktail designed especially for the night.
We all know the story of Casablanca. Boy meets girl, girl leaves boy and several years later she walks into his gin joint in WWII Morocco Iooking for safe transport out for herself and her resistance leader husband.
With the Nazis hot on their trail, her only hope is her old love. Humphrey Bogart stars as Rick Blaine an American expatriate and war profiteer who runs Rick’s Cafe. Ingrid Bergman stars as Ilsa a woman torn between an old love and her heroic husband Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid). All give outstanding performances and do justice to some of the finest dialogue in movie history.
Join in with the battle of the national anthems and get swept up by the greatest romance of all time. Casablanca is an ageless film that gets better with every viewing and there is no better way to watch it than with a cocktail in our own version of Rick’s Bar.
