It Happened One Night 22nd October
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 26th November
The Pictures is more than just a film club; it has become a great social network for the over 55s in Ballymun and the surrounding areas.
The autumn season opens with Driving Miss Daisy on 24th September. Jessica Tandy is Miss Daisy, an elderly and stubborn resident of 1948 Atlanta, whose steady life is disturbed when her son (Dan Ackroyd), worried about her increasingly nonsensical road sense, engages Hoke (Morgan Freeman) as her driver. Positive Ageing Week will be launched by TD Dessie Ellis with special guest Frances Black who will sing a song or two at 2pm in advance of the screening, which will start as usual at 2.30, with tickets free as part of Positive Ageing Week.
Next in the season, It Happened One Night will be screened on 22nd October. This black-and-white classic from Frank Capra tells the story of an encounter between rebellious socialite Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) and a street smart reporter Peter Warne (Clark Gable).
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel will be screened on November 26th. This British comedy stars Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Tom Wilkinson and Maggie Smith, and follows the experiences of a group of elderly Brits who arrive to take up residence in a newly-opened retirement home in Bangalore, India.
The Pictures screenings take place in axis’ 211-seater theatre, so audiences can enjoy the big screen in comfort.
These events are organized by Dublin City Arts Office and axis, in association with access>Cinema.
