After a brief hiatus , The Model Cinema, Sligo re-opens and celebrates with an evening of music, wine and the screening of a truly outstanding documentary, Searching for Sugarman, on Thursday, 27th September commencing at 7pm.
This re-launch coincides with the release of The Model’s fresh and bountiful Autumn programme of events and the range of new film releases will provide an incredible cinematic experience for all film lovers in Sligo. From now on two films per week will be shown, screenings will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8pm with one matinee screening on Sundays at 3pm.
Encompassing the finest independent cinema, touching documentaries, exclusive award-winners and international slices of world cinema. This re-launch evening is a chance for The Model to thank all past loyal Model cinema goers and to welcome all newcomers to the Big Screen on The Mall. An eclectic film programme of new releases will encourage audiences of all ages and backgrounds to engage with film.
A wine reception, tasty treats and a live music performance will proceed the Sligo premieré of the incredible, Searching for Sugarman. This will be one of only two chances to catch Searching for Sugarman on the Big Screen in Sligo; a true life documentary about Sixto Rodriguez, a staggeringly talented performer from Detroit who barely registered on the music scene in America, but was astoundingly popular in South Africa, with his records even outselling Elvis! This is an illuminating, insightful and profoundly moving documentary about what happened to singer-songwriter Rodriguez and is one of this year’s best and most uplifting films.
This is an evening out with a difference, an excuse for a glass of wine, a mingle and to see an inspiring feel-good film that all music lovers will cherish.
