The Found Footage Festival at the Screen Cinema Wednesday July 11th 8:30pm
Trashfest, Dublin is a celebration of the best worst cinema of all time, presents a rare chance to see the American film show, The Found Footage Festival at the Screen Cinema this July!
The Found Footage Festival, the acclaimed touring showcase of odd and hilarious found videos from America, will make its first-ever stop in Ireland on Wednesday, 11 July (8:30 pm) with a one-night-only performance at the Screen Cinema (2 D’Olier Street). This hilarious celebration of the weirdly wonderful is presented by Trashfest, a festival of trash cinema that will take place in Dublin next October.
Hosts Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett, whose credits include The Onion and the hit documentary Winnebago Man, are excited to show off their greatest VHS finds from 20 years of collecting in this newly created show especially for Irish audiences. Tickets are €10 and are available at the box office or at www.foundfootagefest.com. The event is being sponsored locally by Trashfest (www.trashfest.ie).
The Found Footage Festival is a one-of-a-kind event showcasing videos found at garage sales and thrift shops throughout North America. Curators Pickett and Prueher host each screening in-person and provide their unique observations and commentary on these found video obscurities. From the curiously-produced corporate training video to the forsaken home movie left in a trash bin, the Found Footage Festival resurrects these treasures in a 90-minute celebration of all things found.
Highlights from the touring show include:
An industrial safety video featuring a series of on-the-job accident re-enactments
A new collection of exercise tapes from the 80s and 90s, featuring O.J. Simpson, Marky Mark Wahlberg and a trio of rapping pregnant ladies
- A home movie from a debaucherous 1985 death metal concert in rural Maryland
- A travel video for Rio de Janeiro from 1983 hosted by a young and frisky Arnold Schwarzenegger
- A video featuring a woman whose enthusiasm for craft sponging borders on psychotic
- Never-before-seen, obscenity-laced outtakes from a 1988 Winnebago sales video starring Jack Rebney, World’s Angriest R.V. Salesman.
The Found Footage Festival was founded in New York City in 2004 and has gone on to sell out hundreds of shows across the U.S. and Canada, including the HBO Comedy Festival in Las Vegas and the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. The festival has been featured on National Public Radio, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and G4 TV’s Attack of the Show, and has been named a critic’s pick in dozens of publications, including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle and The Chicago Tribune. The FFF can also be seen twice a week in a popular web series on The Onion’s A.V. Club, in the hit documentary Winnebago Man, and in their new book, “VHS: Absurd, Odd and Ridiculous Relics from the Videotape Era.”
