Steven Byrne’s documentary Making Magic Happen is on RTÉ 1 at 10.15 tonight. The documentary focuses on the history of Listowel Writers’ Week, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, and the state of writing in Ireland today.
Since its inauguration in 1971, Listowel Writers’ Week has remained true to the vision of its founders, welcoming poets and writers, musicians and thinkers from around the world for readings, conversation and craic.
This offbeat documentary uncovers the story behind the festival’s quiet self-confidence and captures the atmosphere and excitement of the 40th anniversary Writers’ Week in June 2011.
