Kerry Film Festival in association with Siamsa Tire presenting a classic matinee screening
As the ever popular spring season of Silver Screenings draws to a close Kerry Film Festival (KFF) welcomes the latest offering of classics from the Golden Age of Hollywood. During the first Thursday of each month throughout the year Kerry Film Festival, in association with Siamsa Tire, will be presenting a classic matinee screening, giving young and old an opportunity to partake in a little old-fashioned Hollywood glamour while at the same time indulging in some social, cultural and tea-drinking activity!
The summer season kicks off with one of the greatest musicals of all time An American in Paris (1951) screening on Thursday, 3rd May. Directed by Vincente Minnelli, this extravaganza of song and dance will inspire the Kerry audience to embrace that summer feeling in the company of the inimitable Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron and some unforgettable Gershwin numbers.
Following this, on Thursday, 7th June, the Silver Screening programme is proud to present Brief Encounter. Adapted from his own stage play by Noel Coward and directed by David Lean this poignant and beautifully crafted love story
tempts audiences to fall in love all over again with Alec (Trevor Howard) and Laura (Celia Johnson), a perfectly bitter-sweet way to spend an afternoon. The summer listing will conclude on Thursday, 5th July with a sizzling showing of The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946).This dark tale of passion and intrigue, featuring Lana Turner, John Garfield and Cecil Kellaway, will be bound to captivate and enthrall audiences alike.
All films cost just €2 to anyone aged 65 or over although we welcome everyone to the screenings. Kerry Film Festival serves teas, coffee and biscuits before the film to all attendees from 1.30pm in the foyer of Siamsa Tire. The Silver Screening initiative for the active retired provides a great social occasion for those attending as well as the opportunity to see classic movies on the big screen.
Finally Kerry Film Festival would like to remind all patrons that the screening day remains the first Thursday of each month and to thank you all for your continued patronage. A listing of the Autumn screenings will be available in due course.
The Silver Screening Initiative as part of the Kerry Film Festival in association with Siamsa Tire is supported by The Arts Council, Kerry County Council and Access Cinema.
