25 filmmakers from 13 countries, such as South Africa, China, Lebanon, Brazil, Colombia, the U.S. and several European countries including Ireland, joined forces to write, direct, produce and now premiere this film in their own locations. The film entitled The Owner, follows an ordinary backpack on a event filled journey around the world. The bag is passed from character to character, country to country, on its way back to its owner, a man whose identity is the central mystery of the film. The Irish Director involved in the project is Mairtin de Barra from Cork who’s short Film ‘Tart’ won ‘Best Cinematography’ at the Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival in 2009 and has just wrapped his debut feature film ‘Beat Girl’ for BeActive Media.
The Owner brings together a variety of cultures, languages, and film styles into a singular narrative plot. The script was written entirely via an Internet collaboration. Most of the filmmakers have never met in person. This worldwide collaborative project called CollabFeature was conceived by two Detroit-based directors, Marty Shea and Ian Bonner. The project has 25 aspiring directors from across the world, working independently to write, direct, and produce short films all linked by one main theme. The first of these The Owner , is set for a worldwide premiere on Friday, May 25th with screenings in all 25 countries on the same day. This project is set to break the world record for most directors, surpassing Paris je t’aime, which currently holds the Guinness World Record for the most directors in one film (21). Screening details have been announced for Bangalore, Berlin, Detroit, Dubai, Mumbai, Newcastle, Sao Paulo and now Ireland.
