Abära kicked off last night with a Gala Opening of the Festival, IFI, Temple Bar. The opening-night film the 2010 Academy Award®-winning Music by Prudence, which tells a story of one young womans’ struggle who overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds, and in her own voice conveys to the world that ‘disability does not mean inability’. The screening was followed by a post-screening discussion between Prudence Mabhena and Sinead Crowley of RTÉ.

Abära is Ireland’s first ever International Disability Film Festival. The aim of the festival is to celebrate progress made by people with disabilities while increasing awareness and understanding of the many challenges still faced by people with disabilities around the world.
