The Limerick Film Collective Now On Facebook
The Limerick Film Collective is a very simple idea as most of its work is primarily done on Facebook. It was set up to create a community for filmmakers of all kinds, with a view to helping those who may not have extensive experience in the field. Some of the areas that they cover are: screen-writing, acting to more technical aspects, how to hone skills in collaboration with others. The group aim is to set up projects whereby one hand washes the other, so to speak, a kind of barter system for filmmaking. Peadar Clancy who began the group on Facebook asserts that there are other functions that a group like this might be able to offer. For example a kind of mentoring programme, unofficial, but where younger, less experienced members could work on a project with people who have something to offer in terms of passing on wisdom in a practical manner.
So far they have presented two evenings of film entertainment, one of short, narrative films made by people with a local connection to Limerick City, and another of music videos, again, with a local emphasis. According to Peadar these nights have been very successful and they are encouraged by this. The Collective is not exclusively designed to admit only Limerick or Munster talent, as they hope that as the group grows that they would begin to operate on a more national, and then international level. This might seem a little ambitious but this group has nearly a hundred members already and is growing everyday.
