TitanCon Festival taking place in Belfast 23-25 September
(Sean Bean in Game of Thrones)
The TitanCon SF and Fantasy literary, media and gaming convention will launch its program on Wednesday, 7th September, the festival runs from Friday, 23rd September to Sunday, 25th September in Belfast
TitanCon is the brainchild of Phil Lowles and Ian Lawther to run a non profit convention for fellow fans. The event is organised and run by the Brotherhood Without Banners (a George RR Martin fangroup), Studio NI (Northern Ireland’s largest arts and culture group), and The Other Ones (a Belfast science fiction and fantasy society).
The main focus for TitanCon is Game of Thrones, as there will be panels on the HBO show and on the original George RR Martin books that started it all. The convention will allow fans to meet some of the cast and crew of the HBO hit. This includes actors Miltos Yerolemou and Kristian Nairn, who play Syrio and Hodor respectively on the show. One of the storyboard artists, William Simpson, will also be in attendance on the day. Miltos will also be holding a workshop on sword fighting.
In addition to the Game of Thrones stars, several authors will also be there, including T.A. Moore, Peadar O Guilin and the Guest of Honour is Belfast’s own award winning SF writer Ian MacDonald.
On top of that there will be gaming events including Tabletop gaming and RPGs that will be run by Table Top North and the Arkham Gaming Centre.
A coach tour has also been organised for the Sunday that will allow fans to visit the locations used during the filming of Game of Thrones, locations such as Tollymore Forest and Castle Ward, where there will be a workshop in archery and a Medieval feast to enjoy. According to Ian, ‘The tickets for this have been selling really fast’. So it seems the advice here is if you want to see the locations for Game of Thrones book as fast as you can.
