The Irish Film Institute wishes to appoint an Education Officer to work in their busy and progressive Education Department which operates from the IFI in Temple Bar. The successful applicant will have extensive teaching experience and knowledge of the education sector, and a particular interest in film and moving image and working with young people.

Education Officer: Job Description
Purpose of Job: To design and develop the IFI schools’ programme in conjunction with the Education Officer for delivery at the IFI and around the country.
To assist the Head of Education in developing and delivering continuing professional development to teachers in the areas of film, moving image education and media literacy.
Working with the Education Department, to consolidate the IFI’s position as leader in film education and media literacy in schools, and to build on relationships with other arts and educational organisations and statutory bodies.
To contribute to the development of IFI Education audiences both in and out of school through related programmes and an annual Family Festival.
To support the Head of Education and Education Officer in developing the IFI’s educational strategy, with particular reference to Film Focus, and to ensure its positioning in relation to Europe-wide developments in media literacy.
To maintain a detailed knowledge and understanding of national and international practice in this area.
To support all activities of the Education Department.
Reporting to: Head of Education
Key Relationships: Head of Education, Education Officer, IFI Director, IFI Marketing, formal education sector, arts and community organisations, exhibitors, festivals, other IFI staff.
Essential Requirements:
Extensive teaching/classroom experience in relevant subject area (eg. English/Art/Media Studies/Humanities/Modern Languages) and knowledge of education sector
Experience of working with young people
Good knowledge of and interest in film, enthusiasm for arts
Proven ability to work as part of a team and show leadership
Excellent interpersonal skills, experience of facilitating workshops & making presentations
IT literacy
Detailed understanding of the Irish education sector
Initiative and ability to develop and deliver programmes and events
Willingness to travel to venues around the country for IFI Education events
Desirable Requirements:
Higher Diploma in Education or other education qualification
Film or Media Studies qualification and/or experience
Knowledge of digital filmmaking
Knowledge of arts in education in Ireland
Experience of creating teaching resources and/or schemes of work
Possession of full & clean driver’s license
Working proficiency in Irish language
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
The key tasks and responsibilities of the Education Officer will be to meet curricular requirements in the area of film, moving image education and media literacy, to support teachers and students in this area and to further the work of IFI in all related research and policy development, in conjunction with the Education Officer.
This will be achieved by:
Initiating, planning, developing and delivering appropriate programmes for students and teachers in particular at secondary level, with the Education Officer and according to IFI strategy
Supporting the Education Officer in delivering primary programme and out of school film education activities
Maintaining thorough records of IFI Education activities
Delivering the IFI Education programme to as wide a range of students as possible
Producing and publishing materials in relation to the above
Consolidating research of IFI Film Focus research project and contributing to the implementation of related findings
Delivering teacher training programmes in conjunction with Head of Education
Consolidating relationships with arts and education providers, statutory agencies and cultural organisations
Contributing to debate on curriculum development in line with IFI policy
To further own skills and learning in this area
Promoting and raising awareness of IFI, its activities and relevance for schools, teachers and general public
Supporting all activities of IFI Education
