Part one of the IFI Frank Capra Season

| November 2, 2010 | Comments (0)

Taking place 3–21 November 2010, the first part of the IFI’s Frank Capra Season features six films which were all made during the 1930s. With recurrent themes of money versus love; the emptiness of material ambition repeatedly appealed to the values of decent, everyday Depression-era Americans.

During the 30s Capra collaborated closely with screenwriter Robert Riskin and also some of Hollywood’s greatest acting legends; Jean Harlow became a star after her turn as the sexy high society wife in the romantic comedy Platinum Blonde, while Clarke Gable helped Capra pick up all the major Academy Awards in 1934 for It Happened One Night.

Also making appearances are a young Gary Cooper, Claudette Colbert, Jean Arthur, Walter Huston and James Stewart, with more to follow in the second part of the season coming to the IFI in December.
