Want to be a Film Critic?

Do you enjoy watching films? Would you like to share your views on what you see on the screen with others? Ever wanted to be a film critic? Well this may be your chance.

This May the Dublin Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People in association with AIB Group is offering a fantastic opportunity for young people – apply to join the cross border Cinemagic Jury and review a series of short films under the guidance of the Cinemagic team and a mentor from Film Ireland magazine, who will explain the basics of film critiquing. Jury members will also have the chance to write their own reviews and enter the Cinemagic Dublin Young Film Critic of the Year competition.

Cinemagic is currently selecting young people for its jury panels – the 10–14 year old jury will meet on Saturday 8th May and the 15–18 year old jury will meet on Sunday 9th May from 10.00am–4.00pm in Cineworld Cinemas, Parnell Street. The Cinemagic Jury members will spend a fun-filled day with the Cinemagic Festival team, watching and reviewing short films from around the world. Young people will have the opportunity to hear from a Film Ireland Magazine representative who reviews films, and they will have the chance to talk about their experience and announce the winning films on the Festival Closing Night.

If you would like to apply to be part of the jury then simply write or email an imaginative letter (300 word max) telling Cinemagic why you would like to be a member of the jury. Email claire@cinemagic.ie or contact Cinemagic, 49 Botanic Avenue, Belfast, BT7 1JL by 18th April.

Applicants must have permission from their parents/guardian to be a member of the jury and arrange their own transport to and from the cinema.
