IFI Special Bank Holiday Screenings

| July 28, 2009

The IFI is running three special events through the August Bank Holiday weekend. The weekend begins with a return of The Liberties by Tom Burke and Shane Hogan, a new Irish short film collection that sold out twice over during the recent screening in the IFI Stranger Than Fiction festival. The film takes a magical look at the life and times of The Liberties area of Dublin and captures the crafts, craic and enduring sense of community in a fast-developing, modern Dublin. The screening also incorporates Clubs Are Trumps, one of the real treasures of the Irish Film Archive, which gives a unique look and entertaining glimpse of The Liberties from 1959.

There is also a special preview of a brand new family film starring  on Sunday called The Race. The film follows eleven-year old Niamh McGirr’s ambition to become a racing driver despite the disapproval of her parents and teasing from her friends.

On Monday there will be a once-off chance to see both of the upcoming Mesrine films before they open. Jean-François Richet’s French gangster thrillers take a look at the life of the notorious bank robber and prison escapee Jacques Mesrine, played by Vincent Cassell.
