‘Identities’ to play at the Light House Cinema

| July 20, 2009

Identities is a feature length documentary charting the multicoloured, multicultural transgender community in Ireland. Five personal stories give shape to the different but parallel worlds of transvestism, transsexualism, drag, sexual identity, and gender dysphoria.

Abstract self-representation through performance art opens the viewer’s eyes to each character’s potential to exist in fantasy. Intercut with black and white interviews, fly on the wall footage documents the quotidien experience, throwing reality into sharp relief.

At its heart, this is a film about the human spirit. Overcoming stereotype and categorisation, the gender construct breaks open, allowing personality and human emotion a path to expression.

Identities will play at GAZE Film Festival in the Light House Cinema, Saturday 1st August, 1.30 pm.
